In December 2016, the lovely Magical Musings crew decided it was time to close down their blogging shop. I had three wonderful years with them. This is another of those posts.

The Story I Thought I'd Never Write--originally posted December 9, 2015.

Passion Bites released yesterday, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share Luke & Alexis's heartfelt story with you.

I have to admit, I wasn't sure if Luke's story would ever be written. I usually write first loves-- because I'm deeply committed to grand passion, to love that lasts an eternity. Luke, as Biting Love series readers know, has lost his wife. How did I deal with that, help him heal emotionally?

Strangely, it was a woman whose own emotions are clogged who finally emerged from the pages as Luke's savior. But just because Dr. Alexis Byornsson's emotionally frozen doesn't mean she doesn't have feelings, quite the opposite! ...although she does her darndest to deny them.

Bringing these two together was the hardest and yet most beautiful and fruitful thing I've ever attempted. The finished story still brings heartbreak and finally tears of joy to my eyes. And of course the usual Meiers Corners laughs and cold-drinks sex too.

1T Status Update

Night's Kiss first round of edits turned in last month! I'm working hard to get ahead on my classwork while I wait for round two. Fall concert next weekend for my orchestra. I started re-editing Heart Mates over the summer. Trying to get back to that so it's ready for Hunt Mates's ENT promotion end of next month.

3T Writing Tidbit

Blurbs. We all hate 'em, but we gotta write 'em.

Some people are actually good at blurbs, even exceptional. I bow to all blurb writers, especially the one who whipped Passion Bites into shape. Here is what I sent in:

When a blond god blows into Alexis Byornsson’s emergency room and interrupts her treating a little girl, Alexis is furious. Or, not furious exactly, because Alexis is known as Dr. Frozen, but severely, finger-shakingly disapproving.  Then he kisses her breathless, and Alexis is stunned, her logical armor shaken, when what should be a nice release of endorphins breaks into a steamy tropical storm.

Luke Steel hasn’t felt passion since his wife died in a brutal attack three hundred years ago and he felt powerless to save her. Alexis shocks him by bringing good things to life in more ways than one. Mates are forever, so what the hell is going on?

Then an old frenemy takes off the gloves. With Alexis’s life at stake, all-consuming passion is the one thing neither Luke nor Alexis can afford, yet the one thing that will never let them go.

Here is what I got back:

 Let's look at some of the changes:

• I started with the blond god. Blurb writer started with the main character's name and her situation.
• I had "interrupts her treating a little girl". BW has Alexis's "hands full in the ER" and "stitching up a five-year-old" (interrupts vs. hands full and treating vs. stitching, each more active or descriptive).
• I had Alexis furious at the interruption.  BW differentiated that it was the distraction from her work that made her furious, showing her to be conscientious, not contentious. 
• BW kept my verb "blows into", noun "blond god", and nickname "Dr. Frozen".
• I had the kiss as part of Alexis's paragraph. BW moved it down to the third paragraph (the couple's interaction paragraph).
• I had a paragraph for Alexis, one for Luke, and one for their enemy. BW gave an intro to Alexis meeting Luke, a paragraph for Alexis's initial problem, a paragraph to Luke and his problem, and a paragraph to combining their romantic attraction and their enemy.
• I had "Luke hadn't felt passion". BW punched that up to "For the first time in 300 years, passion stirs in his gut" and then yanks it 180 with the "--along with panic". True genius.
• I had "frenemy". BW has "closer-than-skin enemy".

There's more, but I'll let you figure out the rest.

But as you can see, a good blurb is worth 200 words, but a good blurb writer is worth a helluva lot more.

November 1T Status Update

August 1T Status Update

This month's big news is that edits for Passion Bites should be about done and the book put to bed. Now it's just waiting for Santa to come and waking up on Release Day...which may now be just after St. Nick's day on December 8. More info to come.

The other big news is I have the green light for Mind Mates, book 2 in the Pull of the Moon trilogy. Wizard Prince Gabriel Light meets his match (as I write her, she's leaping off the pages as more than his match, lol) in iota wolf shifter Emma Singer. I'm through chapter 8. Look for this book in August of 2016.

Okay, one more other big news. Hot Chips and Sand, a contemporary romantic comedy, is finally getting its edits this month. I'm planning to release it in September or October.

On the music front, I've started putting together my part for Bach's Brandenburg Concerto 5, featuring soli violin, harpsichord and flute (that's me!). I was first introduced to playing in an orchestra through the Music Minus One version of this concerto (along with #4), so it has special meaning for me. Our spring 2016 concert is the Brahms German Requiem, with the simply gorgeous "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place". We've got a pretty heavy hitting schedule this year so I'm especially glad to have some great books in the works to balance things out :)

1T Status Update July

March 1T Olio/February 2T Repeat Performance

After a whirlwind February, some of the pressures are coming off--but it's only revealed all the stuff I've been putting off.

Any of you--sound familiar? :)

Nutshell schedule:

• Serendipity Bites final edits and distribution
• Passion Bites pre-edits should come back sometime this month
• Taxes. (Picture needle-sharp daggers hanging overhead.)
• Preplanning for Mind Mates (Pull of the Moon Book 2)
• Symphony concert featuring British composers Holst, Elgar, Walton
• Hot Chips and Sand is finally scheduled for edits in August!

So as I mentioned last month, Lust With A Laugh had just started in January of 2014. It was so squeaky new we hadn't even worked out a schedule. No posts in February. I was still in my writer's cave finishing up Assassins Bites and all the other wildness that would be the second half of 2014. Here's my links:

Writer's cave continues. Finished rough-rough draft of Passion Bites, Luke's story. Cried a little at the end, the good kind of tears.

Yesterday was my post at Lust with a Laugh, on taking a mini-vacation: paraphrasing Black Adder, "Have a vacation. Good. Did you enjoy it?" Tomorrow is my post at Magical Musings on 8 Shocking Secrets Healthy People Know. The day after, the awesome Terri Meeker is my guest at Magical Musings. Entertaining and interesting! She writes about how taking the road less traveled by led her to Billy the Kid.

Today I'm working on finishing Thor's story, tentatively titled Serenity Bites. I also considered A Thor Point. It's for the group of goodies us Lusty Linguists are putting together called April Fools In Love--or maybe it's April Fools For Love. After that, yet this week I have edits for the standalone release of Masked Attraction.

Somewhere in there I really ought to eat breakfast. lol.
